Reeling from bereavement and personal tragedies, Marten Rydell and Marcus Knutsson packed in their respective PhD and IT careers and upped sticks to a remote studio in southern Sweden to form Surrounded. Influenced by the likes of Pink Floyd, Flaming Lips and Neil Young, they released their debut album Safety In Numbers on Deep Elm in 2003 before signing to One Little Indian in 2007. Second album The Nautilus Years was released later that year.
